Q: Why do the previews differ between platforms for the same page?

Twitter/X prefers twitter:title/twitter:description/twitter:image and only falls back to the equivalent og:* tag when its own tag is missing. Facebook, LinkedIn, and Slack all rely on Open Graph (og:*) tags directly, falling back further to and the meta description when Open Graph is absent.

Q: Why does this tool show a truncated title or description?

Each platform enforces its own display limits before clipping text with an ellipsis (used here as an approximation: ~70 characters for Twitter/Slack titles, ~88 for Facebook, ~150 for LinkedIn, similarly scaled for descriptions). The badges above a preview flag when your title or description is long enough to get cut off.

Q: Why does URL fetching use a proxy?

getdevtool is a static browser app, and browsers block many cross-origin fetches. The backend proxy fetches public pages so this tool can read their tags.

Q: Can it preview localhost or authenticated staging pages?

Use the Paste HTML tab for pages the proxy cannot reach — copy the page's rendered HTML (View Source or your framework's SSR output) and paste it in.

Q: Does this actually render each platform's real unfurl?

No — it's a visual approximation built from the same meta tags each platform reads, useful for catching missing tags, bad fallbacks, or overly long copy before you publish. Always spot-check a real share on each platform for pixel-perfect confirmation.
